Sadly, my family have never been a close knit unit. I have never been to a reunion or heard of any other Rutherfords in Ohio other than our own. My grandfather, his mother and father, his three children, myself, three siblings, and one cousin....are all that remained until my grandfather died this year.
It was then, when I realized he was past the point of communication, that I knew I would never have a chance to ask him about his past. I didn't know where he grew up or who he played with as a child. I didn't know where he was born, nor would I ever be able to listen to him relate the stories that I had not taken the time to hear.
Now money has torn the already fragile bonds that blood has woven between us as a family. Greed, pride, anger and pettiness has taken it's place among us. I do not belittle myself by taking place in the midst of it all, however by not being involved I am robbed of the only family I have been gifted with.
Some people believe that a person who has passed on lives eternally in our memories and stories... I would like to honor our family and present a Family Tree to each member to remind them all of how precious that memory is.
