We have been able to trace our family name back to the early/mid 1800's in Ireland. We are unable to get any further than 'James Ryan'. He came over from Ireland during the "Famine" by himself. His family had left on a boat before him. They were unable to pay the fare for everyone and had to leave one child behind. We have not been able to trace back the boat he came over on either. He was part of the Union Calvary from PA in the Civil War. He married 'Elizabeth Leonard', they had 7 children, first of which was 'Martin Ryan' who married 'Barbara Didion'. They also has 7 children first of which was 'James Robert Ryan' who married 'Elizabeth McCue'. They had 3 children, one of which is my father 'David James Ryan'.
If any of this information sounds familiar to you, and you have further information PLEASE write to me. I would love to be able to trace my heritage back to Ireland and as far as possible. Thank you.
