The reasons are several why I made this web page. The first, and most important, was to get down on paper as quickly as possible as much information that had been carried around for decades about my Italian ancestors. To expand the story and even fill in much missing data, however, additional research was necessary and as a result, a much broader and colorful picture came forward.
The second reason why I am making this is to share this story with my son Jeremy and his descendents so that he might enjoy the richness of his heritage and even embrace the passion that I have developed for finding out more about my colorful past.
The reader must forgive the arrangement of this information, seemingly haphazard at times. Like with any other labor of love, the story has unfolded from the heart. Purposely, I’ve focused more on placing the information in an order that would be of interest to those familiar with the names and faces rather than opting for a more scientific approach.
Over the years, as I’ve grown older, married, and relocated to the Southwestern United States, I’ve experienced a tremendous decline in things Italian as they relate to my family. This became even more true when my first generation Italian grandparents passed on. Gone are the days when my grandmother and I would write to each other in Italian or when I would visit and she’d prepare her pietanze or specialties.
And so I’m on a mission of preservation. It is my goal to preserve what I may of the beauty and wonders of my Italian heritage before it completely disappears forever.
Finally, this work is a tribute to all of those who came before, who are either mentioned in this book or not, and whom I not only greatly admire for their bravery and adventurous spirits but also appreciate the vast inheritance that they’ve left me.
