About Our Family Research
We are researching the Coley family from Sussex England and Western North America. The family spent many years in the Seattle Washington USA, British Columbia Canada, and Alaska USA areas, from about 1890 to the present. My grandmother was Ruth Marion Coley, and was born in the Seattle Washington area April 5, 1901. Ruth married William Melvin Fleming, and resided in the Summerland British Columbia area for many years. Ruth's father was E.E. Coley, and left the family when Ruth was a young child. E.E. Coley worked for Andrew McCulloch on the Kettle Valley Railway in southern British Columbia from 1911 on. Ruth's mother is beleived to be of Russian decent, and her family may have lived in the Aleutian Islands in the mid to late 1800's. Her name is believed to be Olga Helen Rysev Her father was a Priest in the Russian Orthodox Church in Unalaska.
