Biography
Written at the time of his funeral by his nieces
"Ivan Bernard Gordon was born in East Gwillimbury on July 5, 1928 to Carl and Edna Gordon, the youngest of a family of five. He was predeceased by June (aged -2), Clifford (Blanche Banks), Merlin and his wife Jean and Edythe and her husband Herb.
Ivan attended Public School at Ravenshoe. His family moved to farm in Queensville and he attended High School in Newmarket. Then they moved to a farm in Sharron and Ivan began working in the Bank of Montreal in Newmarket and later became manager. He worked for may years as Bank manager of several Banks of Montreal in downtown Toronto and for a time travelled to help out banks who were having problems. He lived in Toronto but always came home weekends. When he retired, he worked as a Bank Officer in the TD Bank at Upper Canada Mall and upon his retiring there he worked as accountant for Canadian Tire before they moved to their present location. He gave that up when his eyesight was becoming a problem. He also did income tax for several people and businesses.
Ivan never married, although we're told that he did have plans to marry that were thwarted by his mother. Ivan was a Mama's boy. He cared for her, following the death of his father where they lived after retiring from the farm on Davis Dr just across from the hospital. When his mother died, he sold the house to doctor who wanted it for and office and bought a house around the corner on Lundy's Lane where he lived until his death, on Thursday June 10th, 2004.
Ivan loved to work in his garden. The back yard of 631 Davis Dr was a sight to behold with an arbour, a garden path and flowers of every description. He also grew raspberries although he disliked eating them. When he moved, he gave away a lot of perennials, raspberry and red and black currant bushes. He also moved many to his new home.
Ivan developed diabetes and many health problems resulted. Surgery for colon cancer in 2001 resulted in an iliostomy. In the last two years his kidneys began to fail him.
