In 1815 Napoleon Sarony, an officer in the 3rd 'The Black' Hussars of the Hungarian Empire, sold his properties in Hungary and emigrated to Montreal, Canada. He had about 7 children though the identity of his wife is a mystery (one account has it that he married the daughter of a North American Indian Chief)amongst whom the mkost famous were Napoleon and Olivier. Olivier ultimately moved to Scarborough In England, married a lady whose Christina name was Elizabeth. Napoleon, having studied as a lithographer first became famous as a political cartoonist -described as the Karsh of his generation - became the USA's most famous cabinet photographer of the 19th Century. Every great politician, actor, actress, writer, indeed anyone who was 'anyone' had to have "the obligatory Sarony photograph" (see the reference to the US Ambassador in Oscar Wilde's 'The Caunterville Ghost'). Napoleon's daughter Mary was my Grandmother and her youngest son, Leslie, adopted his mother's maiden name as his surname, hence though down the male line, my two brothers, Peter and Paul are also surnamed Sarony. We would like to trace our ancestors and their progeny.
