The Satchell Families of Eastern Shore Virginia

Updated October 2, 2007

About Our Family Research

This homepage is for information about the Satchell families from the Eastern Shore of Virginia(ESVA). The counties on the eastern shore are Accomac and Northampton counties. The majority of the family is from Northampton county. The associated names with the family for my lines are: Burton, Corse, Custis, Francis, Hammett, Heath, Mapp,Thomas, Turner, Satchell, and Stratton.
The start of the tree is with the father of my gggrandfather, a man known as Ronamus. His name is still in the family but little is known about him. Two of his sons were Levin and Severn Satchell. Most of my work so far has been on the Levin Satchell line and the related branches of his wife Annis Stratton, and of his daughter-in-law Sallie Custis, wife of his youngest son, Daniel F. Satchell. The other children are Ada, Amos, Charles, Frances, George, Leah, Leven,Jr., Mary, Moses, Nellie, Robert, and Sallie. There were also birth records for Robin daughter of Annis Stratton. Birth records for slaves did not list the father's name, so the father of Robin is not known at this time. Searching the records I have found another child of Levin and Annis, Emily Satchell who was born in 1875.Also found through a will from 1859 are the daughters Leah and Robin. The will was that of Mary A. F. Stratton, who was the owner of Annis.
