The Scantlan Family has been traced back to Ireland. The basic beginnings of the name are as follows:O'Scanlon-Scantland-Stantlin-Scantlan-Scantling.
As the story goes John Scantland came here from Ireland, he later changed his name to Scantling. His sons William used the name of Scantlan,(Whereby we are) his brothers John & Robert changed their names to Scantlin. Williams son, Samuel Jeremiah, my great grandfather used the name of Scantlan until late in life when he changed it to Scantlin. My grandfather George and his brother Sam kept the name Scantlan.
My Uncle Don Scantlan has written a book "The Scantlan Family of Missouri" which has all of this information and more.
Kevin Scantlan has done extensive research into the Scantlan family.
We have traced the roots to Caroline County,Va with John Scantland who was shown as a Irish settler in the book by Michael J. O'Brien, Irish Settlers in America.
