About Our Family Research

I became interest in my family's history after finding two obituraries. The first was of my Great Grandmother May E. Van Arsdol Martin. It told of her mother, Myra Irene Sams VanArsdol. It also mentioned that she had been born in Nebraska as well as her sister Ethel VanArsdol Ferguson and her brother Guy Albert VanArsdol. The other was of my Grandmother Ethel Martin Nolan who is May's eldest daughter. This Obituary gave leads as to where she was born In Tripp Co. South Dakota. I didn't know much about my grandparents, But that was a year ago. Since that time I have had a whole new world open it's doors to me. I have found my Martin family bringing me back to the 1700's to the state of Virginia. The majority of the family grew up in Iowa, Keokuk, Shelby and Jasper Counties. The VanArsdol and Sams families were also in Iowa. They were located in Keokuk, Shelby, and Harrison Counties. There roots stretched into Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia. By the late 1930's family had moved to Snohomish County Washington where are new branches began to take root.
