Notes for Hope Bridgon Scott: Possibly buried at Laurel Grove Cemetery
Hope died 5 Mar 1863, Chatham County, Georgia. Private, CSA, 3d Co. G, 25th GA Infantry, "Black Creek Volunteers" Transferred to GA Signal Corps and promoted to 3d Lieutenant. "Taken sick by exposure while performing his duties as a soldier in the army, his sickness being the direct result of his service in the army and died from such sickness in camp near Savannah, Georgia about the first of March 1863." (per Captain Joseph W. Bryan, Causey Overstreet, and J. C. Overstreet for widow's pension in 1891. Rodney Scott says he is buried "along Victory Drive." Mary: Birth date from 1900 census. Mary was residing with her son, John Nathaniel Scott, at this time. According to this census, Mary had given birth to 8 children, with 6 still living. Mary did not draw any Widow's benefits after 1903, so she was evidently deceased by then. According to Rodney Scott, family legend has it that she went to Savannah to buy some clothes for one of her grandchildren, fell sick with pneumonia and died shortly thereafter. She was buried next to her husband "somewhere along Victory Drive".
