James died 5 Mar 1831, Screven Co; buried Scott-Powell Family Cemetery in a field off of Buck Creek Road on the Wells Farm. Temperance is also buried there, between James and her second husband, Lewis K. Powell. In 2000, some of the family moved James Scott's tombstone to Buck Creek Methodist Church Cemetery. However, the tombstones of Temperance Rawls Scott Powell and Lewis Knoblock Powell remain. 1820 census = 1m<10, 1m16-18, 1m45+, 1f10-16, 1f26-45. 1830 census = 1m<5, 1m5-10, 1m10-15, 1m60-70, 1f<5, 1f15-20, 1f20-30.

1. James Scott served in the American Revolutionary War from 1777-1779. He was a private in the 1st Virginia Regiment under Capt. Claiborne W. Lawson's Company, commanded by Lt. Col. Burges Ball.Served as Pvt. in 1st Virginia Regiment of Foot from 1777-1779 under Capt. Claiborn W. Lawson's Company commanded by Lt. Col. Burgess Ball and others. Records show he participated in battles at Middle Brook, West Point, White Plains, New York, Brunswick, Smith's Clove,etc. 2. James Scott was a member of the first Masonic Lodge organized in Screven County in 1823, known as the Farmers Lodge #33, Jacksonboro, Ga. 3. James Scott's grave is marked with the U.S. Gov't. Revolutionary Soldier's marker. The grave is located in a field behind the home of Ralph and Reba Powell, Rt. 3, Sylvania, Ga. in Screven Co.
