Writing one letter to a reporter opened up a wealth of family history & a bunch of new cousins from GA. PA.,VA. MA. Fl.Mi.NJ & England, on my Dad's side of the family, almost weekly. Surnames include: Sweeney Barrett,Blakley, Monahan, Padden, Scully, Fagan,Hennig,Clime, Donovan, Donagher,Malia ,& Camsell. Recently found that our Matriarch was married to Patrick Monahan & had three children. He died young after being kicked in the head by a horse. She later married Patrick Barrett. They arrived in the USA 1873/1874. They had a child before leaving Ireland ,but left all four behind in the care of her mother. Six more children would cmplete the family in the USA. The other four children eventually made it over to join the rest of the family.Through several years of searching & with a lot of help from strangers on the internet, I have been able to contact decendants from all but one of the children. I hope to make contact very soon.I have received vauable information from everyone I have been in contact with. Also, I am in contact with decendants of Patrick Barrett's brothers, Rchard & Anthony. Those surnmes include Barrett & Henderson.A large amount of info.came from the Anthony Barrett conection. On Apr.9,2005, we had a mini reunion of several decendants of the three Barrett brothers . They came from Phila.,,PA., Hamilton, NJ., Newark, DE. & Girardville & Ashland, PA.We met for breakfast, then visited St. Joseph's Cemetery in Girardville, Pa. From there we went to the site of where the ancestors lived in the late 1800s & early 1900s. We had a lovely day! Those present were David Henderson, Sherry Sinatra, Kate , Danny & Marty Barrett, Rosalie Barrett Jambetter, Mary Scully Freed. & Peggy Scully. Our big problem now is trying to determine where Anthony Barrett, son of Richard, settled after his mother,Ann, died. My next visitor was Mary Lou Burgess, Gr grandaughter of my grandmother's1/2 brother, Michael Monahan. We had a great time. we toured the area, went to Margaret Barrett's grave in Annunciation cemetery, to the Anthracite Museum & Mary Lou toured the coal mine!! We went to Gettysburg. She's a lovely person. In July, I went to visit her & her equally lovely family in Mass. had a great time there. We toured the town & went to Boston,hd a barbecue, & swam. Two nieces accompanied me & we were treated royally. In Jan. 2005 I had the pleasure of meeting Bridget Monahan Padden's Gr Grandaughter,Jean & her lovely family in Miami. Bridget was a 1/2 sister to my grandmother. Jean also went way out to make me feel important. I was finally able to locate a decendant of Mary Monahan Camsell(!/2 sister of my grandmother) in Nottinghamshire, England. I'm pleased to have met
all these fine people ,as well as Tom & Cathy ,Sandra, Jeanne,& Sharon who I only know via e-mails. 4/25/2009= Note: In October 2006, I was privleged
to meet Margaret Fagan Clime & her daughter, Charlotte, & Charlotte's daughter & son-in-law in NJ. Margaret was 95 at the time & a daughter of my gr- aunt, Annie Barrett Fagan. Unfortunately, Margaret died the following July at age 96. I was so happy to be able to meet her.
