About Our Family Research

I am Gwendolyn McGowan-Seagroves and my African American geneaoligical research focuses primarily on the McGowan, Dillon, Peters and Ball families of the southwest Mississippi counties of Marion,Walthall,Pike and Pearl River .Other branches of this family tree include the Brumfied , Lundy,Foxworth, Green,Smith, Seagroves,May,Echols,Magee, Manning,Haynes,Sylvester and Bridges families. This is a work in progress and anyone having geneaological information on any of these families are welcome to contact me.
This page is dedicated to the McGowan branch of this huge family tree and includes a pictorial history of our family. These are the descendants of David Mcgowan,a slave born in the late 1700's .David had two sons to my knowledge, however it is more than likely that there were more.
David and his two sons, David Jr.,(Dave) and Charles were first located on the 1870 Marion Co.Ms.census record.
The photo's included on this page were collected from many relatives and some date back to the late 1800's.They are all quite wonderful. Enjoy .
