Mary Margaret Simmons (daughter of Asa Simmons and Martha Helen Scoggins) was born August 23, 1843 in Troup Co., Ga, and died June 03, 1911 in Byers, Clay Co., Tx.. She married John Edward Davis on January 07, 1868 in Harris Co., Ga.

Mary Margaret Simmons married John Edward Davis in Harris County,
Georgia on January 7, 1868 by, W. C. Wisdom, Justice of Peace of
Hamilton, Harris County, Georgia. All of their children except the
youngest, Mary Lou Davis, was born in Harris County, Georgia. Mary
Lou was born in Chambers County, Alabama.
They lived in Chambers County, Alabama, near the town of Stroud. They
were stock farmers and raised tobacco. In 1882 the Davis family left
Stroud, Alabama and moved by covered wagons, one pulled by a team of
oxen and the other by a team of mules, to near Franklin, Robertson
County, Texas. There they raised livestock and cotton. A Son was born
to the Davis family, near Franklin, Robertson County, Texas, Grover
Cleaveland Davis.
In their move from Stroud, they drove a herd of cattle and some extra
horses and some mules through as they came along on the move.
In 1892 the Davis family moved from Robertson county, Texas to Archer
County, Texas. They Purchased a section of land one mile north of
Holliday, Texas. They stock-farmed until John Edward Davis's death on
November 5, 1899. He was buried on what was known as the "coldest
Friday". It was so cold that kerosene froze solid in the kerosene
lamps, according to Willis Howze and Ben Suggs. They were the two men
that set up with the body of John Edward Davis. Mr. howze and Mr.
Suggs both said "that all the kerosene burned out of the lamp when it
thawed out."
After the death of John Edward Davis and his burial in the Holliday
cemetery, the family moved on a place northeast of Wichita Falls,
Texas. The place was called "Root Farm" and was southwest of a
community and the small town of Charlie, Texas.
