This site contains information on descendants of Valentine AMSBAUGH (pronounced AWMSBAUGH/OMSBAUGH with numerous spelling variations) and his wife, Anna Barbara ROSER. Valentine and his family resided in York Co., PA in the 1780's where church records show baptisms of his children. He took his family westward to Westmoreland Co., PA of which a portion later became Indiana Co., PA in the very early 1800's. One son, John "Henry" AMSBAUGH, remained in Wheatfield Township of Indiana County. He is the ancestor of my son. However, most of "Henry's" siblings went further West to Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, etc. and eventually as far West as California.
For several years I published a surname booklet "Any AMSBAUGH Ancestors?" (about 11 separate issues) in which anyone with AMSBAUGH lineage could submit their records. Each of these issues are still available for $5.00 each as they contain much documented information which will not be entered on this site.
