Searching for parents, siblings, and descendants of Sebastian SEDLMEIER b. 04 December 1899 in Thundorf, near Osterhofen in Bavaria, Germany and his wife Anna LEITL b. 24 June 1899 in Altenmarkt, near Osterhofen. They both died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA
My father's parents were Josef SEDLMEIER and Francisca KAMMEL. My mother's parents were Kaspar LEITL and Kreszenz KALTENBRUNNER.
My father arrived in New York on board the S. S. Columbus on 13 May 1927. He traveled with George ENDERS and Joseph SCHILLER. My mother arrived in New York on board the S. S. George Washington on 31 October 1925. She traveled with George ENDERS' wife and their children.
My parents were married at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Milwaukee, WI on 28 November 1928. (The witnesses were Joseph and Mary LEIDER). The marriage license shows my mother's parents names spelled Casper and Creszenz with a "C". (My mother’s birth certificate spells it with a "K").
I was born 30 June 1942 and raised in Milwaukee, WI. I have 7 brothers and sisters: Theresa b. 19 August 1929, Anton Sebastian b. 28 November 1930, Dorothy b. 10 December 1931, Richard b. 19 November 1933, Alfred Joseph b. 29 January, 1935, Robert b. 16 June 1938 and James Frank b. 11December 1943. Except for Richard and me all our siblings have passed away. Robert was still born.
In April 1966 I married Carolyn Grace VOELZ in St. Sebastian’s Church in Milwaukee, WI. We moved to Port Washington, WI and lived there for about 10 years and after my father died, moved to Phoenix, AZ. Carol and I have four children: Matthew Scott b. 24 February 1967, Julie Ann (NEE STONE) b. 007 May 1968, David Andrew 18 October 1970 and Jennifer Lynn (NEE SIMCOE) b. 20 April 1974.
In October 1999, I visited Osterhofen and found copies of my parents’ birth certificates. They showed that my father had a sister, Bertha SEDLMEIER b. 10 January 1897. Her birth certificate shows the last name spelled SEDLMAIER. My father's birth certificate, 2+ years later, showed the last name spelled SEDLMEIER. Bertha later married Xaver ALLINGER. She died in Bavaria in the 1970s. According to my LITEL cousins, Kasper is spelled with a "K", and that my mother was baptized in St. Margaretha's Church in Altenmarkt. I also visited a church and cemetery in Thundorf, but do not recall its name. The graveyard has a many headstones with the SEDLMEIER name. Both are catholic churches
According to Hermann SEDLMEIER of Osterhofen, his mother's name was Maria SEDLMEIER nee HUBER b. 23 July 1907. She married Luitpold SEDLMEIER b. 4 March 1903. (Luitpold's father, Johann b. 1860 spelled his last name SEDLMAIER). (No one was has been able to explain why the different spellings.) Hermann believes that his father and or grandfather and my father’s father or grandfather were cousins. During my visit, Hermann took me to a farm where he said my father had worked. He also said that he was related to the SEDLMEIERs living in Munich.
After returning home I received a telephone call from Carol TESKA nee REITER. She lives in New Jersey. (Her 79 year old mother lives in Osterhofen and she wasn't aware I was visiting until after I had left so she called Carol). Carol told me that Francisca KAMMEL is her mother's mother. Carol thinks my father and her grandmother were cousins.
