I have been researching my family for quite a while now. My fathers family came to Cardiff via North Devon and Pembroke and my mothers family came via North/South Devon and France. Dad was decended from Algar of Knowstone, North Devon, who was known to be in Knowstone during the reign of Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) and at the time of the Doomsday Book(1086). Some of the family names in my fathers line are Jones, Ring, Cole, Norman, Shapcott, Nicholas and Williams. The Jones's came from the Atherington area of Devon, the Rings from Bristol, the Coles from St. Giles in the Wood, the Normans from Exton, Somerset, and the Nicholas and Williams from the Maenclochog area of Pembroke. Mum comes from a long line of Devonians. The Taylors from Broadclyst, Bindons and Marshalls from Exeter, Reasons from Axminster, Richards from Ilfracombe, and the Hunts from Braunton. Research is still ongoing, and as everybody knows, never seems to end.
