About Our Family Research

Two brothers, Henry Edward and Max Sklower emigrated from Prussia when it was part of the German Empire of the 19th century. Henry, after traveling through New York, Saint Louis, and Helena opened a general store in Homer, Indiana. He and his second wife Rosa Hyman had several children, most of whom relocated to Saint Louis in adulthood.

Max went through New York, Saint Louis, and Utah before moving to Montana where he lived until his death. He was partner in a hotel, proprietor of a billard parlor, and then the builder and owner of the Great Northern Hotel in Malta, Montana. His two sons, Joseph (Josef) and Emanuel took over the hotel when Max retired in 1919.

Joseph married late in life, and never had children. Emanuel married and had two children, both of whom have left Montana.
