Ancestors and/or descendants of Don. Francisco SERBIA

Updated March 9, 2002

About Our Family Research

DURING THE SERBO-TURKISH WARS FROM 1371 TO 1459 (FALL OF SERBIA) MANY SERBIAN WARRIORS WERE PAID BY VENICE AND SPAIN TO FIGHT THE TURKS,FOR THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE TURKISH LANGUAGE,FIGHITING TECHNIQUES AND MORAL CHARACTER.

THEY WERE DESCENDANTS FROM BRAVE SERBIAN KNIGHTS. MANY OF THEM MADE THEIR FAMILIES OUTSIDE OF SERBIA.IT COULD BE THAT THE FAMILY THAT I AM LOOKING FOR CAME FROM SOME SERBIAN WARRIOR WHO STAYED IN SPAIN,MAYBE IN THE KINGS GUARD.

I am trying to find information about Don Francisco SERBIA. Born in Barcelona around 1750. His son Francisco SERBIA (b. 1770 Barcelona) married Paula Filare. They had a son, Francisco SERBIA FILARE who was born in 1795 in Barcelona. Died in 1844 in Aguas Buenas, PuertoRico. Had married on January 21, 1822 with Sra. Maria del Rosario Quinones daughter of Juan Quinones y Rosa Rivera.
NOTE:
In Spain the last name Serbia is known as Servía (in antiquity there was no difference between the v and the b).
