Meta Peters Sethmann arrived in New York City on June 8, 1888. She sailed from Hamburg on the California with her two youngest children, Marie and Diedrich (later known as Richard). Her older children had immigrated earlier. Catherine (Kate) came about 1880; Anna Maria about 1881; and Henry in the summer of 1884. Meta was the widow of Hinrich Sethmann (1823-1887) of Elm, Hanover.

Through records in the Oldendorf Church archives, I have traced the Sethmann/Peters families to Elm, Hanover and surrounding area. Related surnames include Buck, Tiedemann, Diekmann, Spreckels and Meyer for the Sethmanns and Granz, Schlichten and Brackmann for the Peters.
My husband is the grandson of Henry Sethmann (1870-1943). If one of these people was your grandparent, or if you’re descendant of another Sethmann line, we’d love to hear from you. Contact bsethmann@aol.com
