John Joynson (son of John Joynson and Hannah Nield) was born 1827 in Gorstage, Weaverham, and died 4 February 1875 in Lymm. He married Ellen Bennett on 14 April 1858 in Chester Parish Church, daughter of William Bennett.
Notes for John Joynson: Dear Tony,
Thanks for your recent email. It is good to hear from you again. I have been to the Cheshire Record Office again this week but I have been unable to locate the baptism of your John Joynson (c. 1826-27) in Weaverham registers. I don't have any records of Joynsons at Gorstage, but I think that I may be on to something!
The eldest son of George & Ann Joynson of Whitley & Cogshall was John Joynson (born 1808, Lower Whitley). John Married twice. His first wife was Hannah Nield of Brin (which is right next to Gorstage!). I have never been able to find the marriage entry for John & Hannah. Of their five children I can only find the baptism of Mary (baptised at Lwer Whitley, 28 Apr 1833). I am still looking for the baptisms of Emmanuel (1830), Peter (1835) who lived at Eagle Brow, Lymm lodging with your John Joynson!!, Ann (1839), & Elizabeth (1841). I think it is very likely that your John Joynson was the first son of John & Hannah and that he was named after his father. So, although in the 1861 census Peter is listed at a lodger he was in fact also the brother of John.
I have no idea where to look for the baptisms of John, Emmanuel & Peter. I am fairly sure where Ann & Elizabeth were baptised. They were born at Crowton and at about this time their mother Hannah experienced a conversion to evangelical Christianity through the preaching of the Primitive Methodists at Crowton. Unfortunately, the baptismal registers of the Crowton Primituve Methodists are missing! I used to attend revival meetings at Crowton Methodist church before its closure c. 1975. When Hannah Joynson died in 1847 her obituary was recorded in the Primitive Methodist Magazine. There is very little in the way of information about the details of her life, mainly about her Christian life and witness, but it is still interesting to read.
On Saturday we are going to Paris for a week, so I will not be doing any family history research until the following week!
Regards,
Edgar Gregory (16/05/2002)
