The Mayfield Reunions began in 1976 to my recollection, celebrating the offspring of Henry Lewis and Lula T. Mayfield, of Newsoms, VA. The Mayfield family migrated from Nutbush Township, NC and possibly Mecklenburg, VA. before settling in Newsoms. Melton Mayfield and his wife Lennie (Barnes) relocated to Brooklyn, NY and raised a family there. Lennie Barnes was a native of Newsoms, VA and her parents appear to be natives of Southampton County, VA. Most surviving family descendants have now relocated to North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
