HENRY SHARPE FAMILY OF ST. JOHN'S NEWFOUNDLAND CANADA Updated August 23, 2006
About Our Family Research
The surname Sharp/Sharpe is one of the first names associated with Upper Island, Newfoundland. According to Ships records the first Sharp to Newfoundland came from England. He settled in St. John's Harbour. History also shows a James Sharp who married an Elizabeth and he was the High Sheriff of Harbour Grace, NL back around late 1700's. The Sharpe with whom I am decended is James Sharpe who owned and operated James Sharpe and Sons General Store 97-99 New Gower Street, St. John's 1920. James moved with his parents and wife and children, and step children from Upper Island Cove in 1902 where he and his father owned land in Paradise. The Sharpe family are rich in military History and much has been written about different family members. I have been searching for many years, and have accumulated more then 3,000 individuals. Some names associated with the family are ADAMS, LYNCH, CLARK, DROVER, MARTIN, PUDDISTER, NICHOL and Stamp.
