Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum
message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles
will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will
no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.
I am a great-granddaughter of Nicholas Gueltzau. My Grandfather was John Gueltzau of Steedman MO. My father, Finis Edgar Gueltzau, died in 1986 and is buried in Fulton, MO. He is the last of our lineage to carry the name. My mother, Lucille Gueltzau, died July 4, 2004. There are cousins living in the general Kansas City, MO/KS area, but none of us know whether Nicholas was born in the US or in a European Country such as Germany. My desire to is to find anyone who may have the Gueltzau name living in Europe or someone who can help me narrow the search. I have gotten reports that Gueltzau is spelled many different ways. In addition, I have reports that the name originated from Germany (particularly Hamburg); from the Black Forest Region of Germany; from the Alsace Lorraine Region; even from Switzerland. My mother's father, Fred Laubscher, was born in Tauffelen, Switzerland and his birthplace still stands. It will be of little difficulty for me to make a trip to Tauffelen and get original records. However, the Gueltzau name eludes me.
