Jane Ashley (daughter of Riley Griswold and Polly Ashley) was born 09 September 1814, and died 04 August 1904 in Elkhart, IN. She married Joshua Potter, son of Ephriam Potter, Jr. and Sarah Bristol.

"Jane A., her(Polly) oldest daughter, born in Green Co., New York, Sept. 9, 1814, married Joshua Potter. He was born in Schoharie Co., New York, Feb. 19, 1814. He was the son of one Ephriam Potter and Sarah Potter (nee Bristol) and also a cousin of Potter Palmer. They taught school in Ark. one year, then joined the Choctaw Mission under the patronage of the American Board for Foreign Missions, in Indian Ter. They labored there for five years, then on account of slavery among the Indians, were transferred to the Sioux Mission in Minn. They were there nearly two years, and were again transferred to the Seneca Mission in New York State. After laboring ten years, they left the Mission Field and moved to Mich. They had eight children, --- Jane Ann, born in Vanburen Co., Ark., July 27, 1842; Chas. J., born in Choctaw Nation, Indian Ter., Oct. 16, 1843; Frank Nelson, born in Indian Ter., Feb. 9, 1845; Sarah Ellen, born in same place, March 13, 1848; Joshua Dwight, born in Minn., April 19, 1850; Louis DeFay, born in Cattaraugus Co., New York, Sept. 13, 1851; Laura Wright, born in same county, Jan. 27, 1854."
