JAMES A. SHAFFER:
b. December 22,1788 in NJ and married Margaret Brooks in 1809 in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. After James Shaffer's served a short military service in Ohio in the War of 1812. James and Margaret settled in the present day area of Cameron County, PA in the town of Sinnemahoning and First Fork area. My research files start with James (Jr.) Shaffer's family Bible, which list all 15 children birth dates. James & Margarets children were:
1-William Shaffer, b. Nov.19,1810, d. Jun.02,1833 married to Jane Berfield, who after Williams death, married Joseph Mason, Jr.
2-Henry Shaffer, b. Jan.02,1812, d. Oct.17,1864 m.Jane Mason (daughter of Joseph Mason, Sr. & Margaret(GRUGAN) Henry & Jane had 9 children
3-Rebecca Shaffer, b. Feb.19,1813, d. Apr.1893 m. John Berfield and they had 18 children
4-Benjamin Brooks Shaffer, b. Oct.05,1814, d. bef. Feb.13,1856 married 2x: 1-Elizabeth Caldwell, 2-Phoebe Ann Hess. Benjamin had 4-known children.
5-James Jr. Shaffer, b. Jan.11,1816, d. Feb.14,1909 married Mary Miller. they had no known children.
6-Joseph Shaffer, b. Sep.23,1817, d. Nov.29,1897 m.2x: 1st: Jane Sterling, 2nd:Eliza McCloskey "Rev." Joseph Shaffer had 7 known children.
7-John Shaffer, b. Nov.20,1818, d. Mar.1849 married Elizabeth Ritchie. John & Elizabeth had 5 children (This date as recorded in James Jr. Shaffer Bible, interment at Jerico Cem. Sinnemahoning, Cameron Co., PA no Tombstone found)
8-Mary Shaffer, b. Mar.11,1819, d. Apr.21,1869 married Jessie Hall, Jr. of Clinton co., PA and had 5 known children.(March 11,1819 also Tombstone inscription date.)
9-David Shaffer, b. Oct.06,1821, d. aft.Aug.25,1872 married Sahra Jane Wykoff. can not locate and don't have any information of this family branch.
10-Wesley Shaffer, b.Apr.09,1823, d.Apr.08,1875 married Savila Sterling they had possibly 6 children
11-Washington Shaffer, Nov. 16,1824, d. aft.Aug.25,1872 married Amanda Logue, they had one known child.
12-Jacob L. Shaffer, b. Jun.28,1826, d. Mar.10,1904 married Mancy Ellen Johnson, they had 7 known children, possibly 11-15 children total
13-Elizabeth Shaffer, b. Mar.15,1828, d. Aug.15,1912 m.2x 1st. Rev. Adam Houghenberry, 2m to: Dr. Amos French no known children from Elizabeth.
14-Margaret Shaffer, b. Mar.01,1830, d. May 26,1851 married Coleman Grugan of Clinton Co., PA they had 2 children.
15-Sarah Jane Shaffer, b. Sep.25,1831, d. Dec.04,1894 married John Lorenzo Dowl FOULTZ, they had 10 children.
