I am the oldest daughter of Robert Jackson Gates(1920-1991) and Inez Brownlee Gates(1925-...)Robert was born in Eros, LA and Inez was born in Monroe, the last of 13 children born the H. Rastus Brownlee and Willie Jane Dyer Brownlee of West Monroe. Rastus was from Calhoun, LA and little is known about Willie Jane's family, since her parents gave her and 3 sisters up because they were unable to raise them.

Robert and Inez had five children: Beverly Inez (Slocum), Robert Oather Gates, Richard Allen Gates, Larry Gates, and Tonya Alice(Poore).
