Current focus is on SCHMIDT/SMITH line that came to America in about 1836-46. Joseph SCHMIDT(8 Sep 1808 - 7 Feb 1869) learnt silk weaving in Germany. Believe he was born in Madgeburg, Saxony, Germany on 8 Sep 1808, immigrated at Baltimore, MD. Married Anna Maria HERB/HERBST(b.ca1820 - d. 2 Jun 1860) First child born in MD in 1836 or 1847 and next child William John SMITH b. 20 May 1849 in York County, PA. Most ancestors resided in York County, PA arriving in early to mid 1700s. Migration routes were Philadelphia to Berks Co to Perry Co to York; or Phild. to Lancaster to Fredericks, MD to York; or Phil. to Lancaster to York; and Phil. direct to York.
