My Surnames of interest are:

RICHARDSON in and around Polstead, Suffolk
THROWER from Lowestoft, Suffolk up to Ketteringham and East Carleton in Norfolk and back to Brockdish
WARNER in Assington, Suffolk and Bulmer, Essex
PARR in Newmarket and Exning, Suffolk
CHAPMAN in Newmarket and Kirtling, Cambridgeshire
These are the ones I've done the most work on. I've done odd bits here and there on other surnames but not a lot.

STOP PRESS: I have recently given up Family History as my life has become extremely hectic, so am unable to reply to emails about family history in general. I only want to hear from you if you are certain that you link to any of the families above, and then I will pass on information to you. Thank you for your consideration.

Family Photos

• Edward Richardson and Family (29 KB)
Edward (1836 - 1891) and Emma nee Clarke (1837 - 1912) and their eight children Edward Charles, Ophelia, Jessie, Margaret, George, Robert Leonard, Ellen and Katherine, at Wissington Grange in about 1887
• Ernest William Wright (1895 - 1961) (21 KB)
Great Grandfather Ernest was born in Felsham and it was to Felsham he returned to be laid to rest in the churchyard. He was the only one of my great-grandparents to go to the The Great War: he was on the Somme when the first tanks rolled out into combat. His nickname was "Tom" and for a long time I thought that it was his given name. Ernest was the son of Harry Wright and Elizabeth Moss (who appears in another picture on this website).
• George Richardson and Family (21 KB)
George (1874 - 1953) and Alice nee Thrower (1878 - 1944) and five of their six children, Paul, Margarita Joan, Ronald, Alan and Leonard George, in about 1922 at Wissington Grange.
• St Peter's Church, Felsham, Suffolk, England (15 KB)
This is the place of worship where several of my ancestors were baptised/married/buried - The HORREXes, the WRIGHTs and most prominently the BIXBY family. John BIXBY or BEKESBY is said to have been born in Felsham in about 1370, he was my 16 greats grandfather. Most likely he was buried there too, but all his many descendants (a great many of whom live in the US) will never know for sure.
• Israel Warner (1853 - 1931) (23 KB)
Israel was the fourth child of Joseph Warner and Delia Tiffen of Assington. He was an Agricultural Labourer, and worked at Assington Hall with horses at one point in his life. He died at the Fox and Hounds Pub at Groton, the home of his daughter Elizabeth, who was the informant of his death. He was a very religious man.
• St Mary's Church, Thorpe Morieux, Suffolk, England (20 KB)
Again, a lot of my ancestors and relatives were baptised/married/buried here at Thorpe Morieux (pronounced "Meroo"), notably the BIXBYs, the LONGs and the GAMEs. More BIXBY ancestors are buried here than at Felsham, but again, with the pre-parish registers era, we will never know for some of them.
• Sarah Warner nee Griggs (1854 - 1918) (11 KB)
Sarah was the third child of Walter Griggs and Elizabeth Jarman, probably the second born at Assington. She worked as a servant at Assington Hall before her marriage to Israel Warner in 1873 and bore him eleven children. She died in the influenza epidemic of 1917/18 at Assington.
• Daisy Maud SMITH nee CUSHION (1890 - 1977) (1 KB)
Daisy is shown here at the seaside, not sure which one, but probably on the East coast. Daisy was twice married as her first husband, a Mr Johnson died in the influenza epidemic of 1917/18. Her second husband was George Edward Smith (1891 - 1943), a farm labourer. With her two husbands she had several children including my Granddad Hubert Smith, and plenty of grandchildren (as yet uncounted by me!) Daisy's ancestry goes well back into the 1500's.
• A Richardson Wedding In 1895 At Wissington... (33 KB)
Margaret Richardson and her new husband Edwin Arthur Croyden with gathered family and friends in front of Wissington Grange. Most of Margaret's siblings are to be seen here. Her mother Emma sits at the front - she's the lady in black beside the bride. The other lady in black seated is Edwin's mother.
• The Grave Of John LONG of Brettenham, Suffolk (25 KB)
My 10 greats grandfather John LONG is the earliest of my ancestors with a known grave. He died in 1708 aged 78, and his grave is marked with this slowly crumbling headstone, which still has a legible inscription - "Here lyeth the body of John Long, who dyed March 28th 1708 aged 78 years." Wife - Mary BALLS who predeceased him in 1696, two children - John (my ancestor) and Mary.
• Alice Richardson nee Thrower (right) and Friend (26 KB)
Alice Maud Marion Thrower was born at 68 Bevan Street Lowestoft Suffolk, the first child of George Henry Thrower, a blacksmith and his wife Elizabeth Moore. Alice worked as a schoolteacher in Ipswich Suffolk before her marriage to George Richardson in 1908, and after the family moved to Long Melford, Suffolk, she ran a tea shop. Alice was a very generous woman, who was known to invite tramps to sleep on the sofa overnight (my Granddad told many an interesting story about his mother!) and would give money to anyone who needed it. She died in Long Melford in 1944, and lies in a marked grave in Wissington churchyard with her husband.
• Emma Clarke 1837 - 1912 (8 KB)
Emma in her old age, probably about 1910.
• Herbert Game 1872 - 1963 (10 KB)
My great-great grandfather Herbert was a farmer in Thorpe Morieux, at Clay Hall Farm, which had land in both Thorpe and neighbouring Cockfield. The farmhouse was pulled down in the 1960's. Herbert was the second somewhat belated son of David Game and his wife Sarah Horrex, born 15 years after their other two children Alfred John and Sarah Ann. Herbert was married to Rosanna Long, who was (like Herbert) also a descendant of Thomas Crick of Cockfield (I forget the exact relationship, third or fourth cousins I think). My Dad vaguely remembers Herbert as a very old man.
• Leonie Smith (32 KB)
Celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee, 04 Jun 2002!
• Elizabeth Moss (13 KB)
All I know about my great-great grandmother Elizabeth was that she was married to Harry Wright, and they had three sons - Wilfred, Arthur and Ernest (my great grandfather). She may have been one of the Lawshall Moss family, but I've yet to pin her down on the 1881 Census. We think that the baby she's holding is my Granny Kathleen Olive May Wright (now Smith).
• Margarita Joan Pratt nee Richardson 1914 - 1948 (5 KB)
My great-aunt Joan, my Granddad's only sister, who died young.
• Zella May Game later Wright (1895 - 1980) (14 KB)
Pictured here we have Zella with myself Leonie Marie Smith on my second birthday in 1976. I remember visiting "Nanna" at her home at 1 Blacksmiths Lane, Thorpe Morieux several times as a small child. Most of all I remember her lovely kind blue eyes smiling at me. I wish I remembered her better, but I was only 5 when she died.
