Includes NotesNotes for Robert Scott Smith:
Me - What about me?
Where do i start to explain who i am?

Facts - lets have some facts,
My first school - Winton school, Islington North London - School was originally built before the First (Great) war, i was happy there until a black kid came on the scene called Elija Marty - A right bastard, and he made my life a compleat misery. From there i was transferred to Penton school which was up the end of Chapel Market, and this meant at least a 20 minute walk in the morning, which i cant remember complaining about. Penton was a whole lot better school, they taught you for one thing! my form tutor was Mr Birmingham, the first day there he showed me the classroom door and said "This is my name, Mister Bir-Ming-Ham" and thats precisely how he broke it down...
Life there was pretty good, they were a progressive school, and even taught sewing and how to make your own clothes - to the boys as well!
Then the family moved to Manor Park, East London - I didn't help in the move due to the fact that i was bundled off with my Gran in Scotland, and all i can remember is coming back to a terraced house in East London - 52 Nine Acers close, Manor park, London E12 6AU - a nice house, and it has a good feel to it. School once again raised its head, and they had problems getting me into a school - the one which was at the end of the road was "out of our area" how bloody daft! and the one that was in my area - Sandrinham, was so full that they wanted to put me back a year! - Thus i ended going to Avenue junior school, Now somewhere i learnt how to be lazy, and didn't fancy walking around three roads to get to the front entrance, thus i used to climb over the firegate at the end of our road, after doing this for about two months, i was told that if i continued i would be caned! (i still did, but never was!)
My secondary school was Little Ilford Comprehensive, This school was quite a progressive place for its day, but it had quite a bad rap from the parents and other schools in the area. My form class was 1/8 and in my firth year it was 5/8. My form tutor was Miss Terry O'Neil, and she was in the PE department, thus my form class was often the changing rooms in the sports department.
Miss O'Neil was magic - I think all the boys were madly in love with her and dreamed of getting her in bed - Which alas, never happened!

From leaving school, i went strait to College to study to become a Marine radio office, the course was well run, but i didn't really apply myself to the study.

My first job, I was working for Sunset security systems - Ah, that was fun! i was a static guard, guarding the magical stuff - Cooking fat and cooking oil... this was for Pura foods. The shifts were 12 hours in length, and were as boring as hell. I always did nights - which were worse still...
Occasionally, I did 24 hour shifts when my Relief was sick and on one occasion i did 36 hours - I honestly can say i couldn't remember which way was up!

From there, I went to British Olivette, Where I was repairing computer equipment down to component level - This job was fun! we did our job, worked hard and enjoyed ourselves!
I used to joke to my friends that I worked for the Mafia, only to realize later when the managing director in Italy was arrested for Mafia corruption charges how close I was to the truth

From there, it was to the University of East London as a Senior Technician for the computer Centre. There was fun in this job, and i met some great people - Like Cherie Dwight-Moore (nee Westwood) - I can honestly say that she is my best friend and confidant!
When I initially joined, it wasn't a university but a polytechnic, this was a great place to work and if you was 'smart' you could work the system. i.e. the polytechnic had its own cleaning service that cleaned and washed all our lab coats, occasionally you could smuggle in a white shirt or two and it would come back cleaned and pressed! (it was rumored that some staff put ALL there laundry in this service!)
Unfortunately when we were 'made-up to a university, all this went out to external tender and all the perks disappeared overnight.
