Father originally went to india, John was about 6, thus most of his early years he knew India well, How he met his wife i have no clue, im not even sure where they were married at this point.
Used to smoke a pipe was an excelent dominos player and drafts player.

its hard to say a great deal about my mothers father, I can remember him best smoking his pipe, and trying to gas me out with the dammed thing!
In scotland, they had a world war 2 gas mask behind the cuboard door, and i used to wear this so i wouldnt smell his pipe smoke, but the gasmask may have been affective against mustard gas, but it sure did no good againt pipe smoke!

used to like a glass of whskey, mum said he was a bit of an acholholic, but i never saw this...

used to like inventing things, was told that he tried to make a paint sprayer out of an old hoover whilst in India, but didnt work quite right.

Their prensents during the war years came from Gamages, mums present one year was a set of paper flowers
Cousin Andy came down from the burma Front and helped mum make them

Grandad was very nearly murded before returning to England, Three indians came after him in Ludhiana and mistook him for a Muslim as he spoke indian very well, he identified himself as a european, and if they didnt move out of his way, he would draw his gun - but he never carried a gun (pistol)
