It came to light many years later that Jannie Scott's mother was illiterate. When registering her daughters birth, the name was entered as JAMES SCOTT - MALE and being unable to correct this, she entered her signature by means of a cross, it was only when Jane Wood (Nee Scott) reached the age of 70 years and was eligible for a state pension of 5 shillings per week which required her to produce her birth certificate, she had to go to a JP in Glasgow and swear that it was her own birth certificate
