Sr. Andrew William Friedly was born 09 Oct 1731 in Landvogtei Wangen, Bern, Switzerland, and died 28 Nov 1786 in Washington Twp, Franklin Co, Pennsylvania. He married Anna Elizabeth LeVan, daughter of Daniel LeVan Jr. and Susanna Siegfried.

Arrived in Philadelphia in 1751 on ship Queen of Danemark. Signed qualification oath 4 oct 1751. In 1758 he fell heir to a legacy of 335 crowns from his daughter who remained at home; married first in Switzerland. Wife's name unknown or she died during the trip to America or soon thereafter. Purchased 162 acre farm in 1763 near Quincy, Franklin Co, PA on which he built a house of stone which was still standing in 1931. "According to "Lists of Swiss Emigrants in the Eighteeth Century", by
Faust and Brumbaugh, on April 21, 1751, the Swiss government recorded
that "Andreas Friedle and Hans Schneeberger, both of the Landvogtei of
Wangen, and serveral Oberlander (inhabitants of the Oberland) wish to
emigrate to Pennsylvania with their wives and children".

Faust and Brumbaugh state that on May 29, 1751 Hans Schneeberger and
Andreas Friedle did emigrate. (referenced as from Wackerschwend). They
arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Queen of Denmark, and on October
4, 1751, signed the oaths of qualification." In 1758 the account book
shows Fridli fell heir to a legacy of 335 crowns from his daughter
Barbara, who had remained at home.

Ancestors, Vol. III., Number 1, Winter 1989., Kittochtimmy Historical
Society, Chambersberg, Franklin County, PA.

He purchased a 162 acre farm in Washington Township, Franklin County,
Pennsylvania, near Quincy, April 20, 1763, and was adjacient to Andrew
Snowberger, Robert Ivine and Fredrick Foreman. He purchased another
farm of 119 acres, 44 purchase and allowance, December 18, 1767 which
was located adjacient to widow Snowberger, William Beard, and Jacob
Wertz. These two parcels were located in a settlement of German
Dunkard religionists near Quincy. He and his family eventually joined
that religious group. He was orginally Lutheran.

He built a house of stone in 1763 on the first farm and is know as
"his Mansion Place". It was still standing in 1931. Showing little
deteriation after a century and one half of use.

In his Will, (probated December 30, 1786, Letters of Administration
granted to John Friedly and Andrew Friedly), he refers to the farm as
the "Plantation" joining those of Fredrick Foreman, John Price and
Andrew Snowberger. His wife renounced right to administer his Will
therefore, John and Andrew were appointed Letters of administration.
Both he and his wife died on the farm know as "His Mansion Place" or
"Plantation".

Pennsylvania 1784-1826.)
