Updated April 18, 2004
| About Our Family Research |
|
I am working on all of the Snowden Clans in the USA. I am from the line of John Snowden who died in Philadelphia in 1736. There are many other lines of Snowden families in America. The main lines are Richard Snowden of MD. Samuel and Joshua of SC. William and Aaron of Alabama. and James of Miss. The southern lines might be related but it has not been proven yet. I welcome all information on any Snowdens. I will continue to atempt to help anyone who is looking for their Snowden roots.

- Ancestors of John Elliott Snowden II (218 KB)
I want to experament with how this web page works. I have made a GedCom of my greatgrandfather's ancestors and I'll see if other genealogists can get the information. I also made the tree small by not adding brothers and sisters. I want to see how much space this takes up.
- Descendants of John Snowden, of Philadlephia (657 KB)
John Snowden who died in 1736 in Philadelphia was the first American in my family. He is said to have been born in 1632 but it may have been as late as 1650. He is said to have been the first Elder of a Presbyterian Church in America. It is known that he came to the new world about 1670 and that he was a Quaker. His father was William Snowden and William did not come to America.
- Covington Co. Alabama Snowdens (29 KB)
I first got interested in this family because my wife has a Flowers cousin who married a Snowden. I have not been able to connect this line of Snowdens to any others. I hope that this will help people working on this line. To make this more helpful, Make Aaron Snowden the primary individual. This program makes the Flowers family primary because I entered them first.
- Richard Snowden of Maryland (169 KB)
This is the second largest branch of Snowdens in America. Richard might very well be a cousin or even a Brother to John Snowden of Philadelphia. Much of the information here comes from the book Montpelier & The Snowden Family by William G. Cook
- Southern Snowdens James William & John (775 KB)
Three brothers James, William, and John all seem to have come out of South Carolina. James settled Lauderdale Co. Miss. William was in Monroe Co. Ala. and there may be aconnection to the Covington Co. line. Less is known about John, who had descendants in Texas. Most of the information here is from other reasearchers. I don't know much about this line.
- Sam Snowden Ky-Mo (11 KB)
I found this family living in Mo. in 1860. I got interested in this family by finding an Obituary in the Tampa Tribune for John L. Snowden. I found cousins of his working on his family tree, they still live in Texas. One of his daughters married a William Jarome Snowden, who is not her cousin, but oddly enough has the same last name. His family tree follows.
- Wayne Co. Tenn. Snowden (17 KB)
As I was writing about the previous Tree. Two unrelated Snowdens married I began to look for the Husband's line. This lead me to Tennesee. Before that, they may have come from North Carolina but there is no proof.
- Joshua Snowden of South Carolina (50 KB)
I don't have much on this family. I make a few guesses in my work here so some of this information might very well be incorrect. Corrections are welcomed. I have never met a Snowden who claims to be from this line so I would very much enjoy thier input.
- Samuel Snowden of South Carolina (15 KB)
This branch of Snowdens pronounce the name differently, as in the word "now" not the long "o" as in "snow". Some of this family moved to Florida and now live in the Tampa area.

Centennial volume of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh, PA., 1784-1884. From pages 200-203 SOME EMINENT ELDERS OF THE FIRST CHURCH by The Rev. Dr. James Allison, who married Judge Snowden's daughter. Many other's have quoted this biography. One can assume that because he was so close to the family that he must have obtained his information from John's widow Elizabeth and her surviving children. Dr Allison was also well known as the editor of The Presbyterian Banner.
