About Our Family Research

I would like to start off learning about my ancestors and my heritage. I know I have Irish, German, Polish, & Sweedish in me.

.:*:. The Brady Family.:*:.
Motto: Vincit Pericula Virtus
Translation: Virtue conquers dangers

The Brady family is descended from Milsius, King of Spain, through his eighth son, Heremon, and first king of Ireland. The founder of the family was Brian or Brune, son of Eocha Moy Veagon, king of Ireland in the 4th century. The ancient name of the family was Carbhail which means "Ship captain." The Mac-Brady's, according to Mac-Geoghegan, were a branch of the O'Carrolls, the cheifs of Calry, a territory in Leitrim,in the barony of Dromahaire, which appears to have comprised an ajjoining portion of the parish of Calry, in Sligo. The MacBradys are often called O'Carrolls at the present day by persons speakin in Irish, who designate them Caroolaghs.

From an early period the cheifs of MacBrady's possessed lands in Cavan, where the family is extremely numerous today, especially in the barony of Loughtee. Baron Thomas Brady, a distinguished field marshal for a long time in the service of Ausria, was a native of the County of Cavan. Another somewhat noted memeber of the family was Dr. Nicholas Brady, author of sermons, and a translation of Virgil's AEnid, & collaborator with Nahum Tate in the English version of the Psalms.

Isabel and Samuel had 12 children.
