VERY ROUGH FAMILY HISTORY
Thomas Winter married Lucy Hodson. Thomas was born in New Jersey, and Lucy was born in New York. They lived in Monmouth County, NJ [Middletown Township] in 1870 where they can be found on the January Census [Roll 875, Book 1, Page277]. On that Census Thomas is listed as being 41 years old and living with his wife Lucy, 32 yrs, and presumably their five children: Millian (M/12), Jane (F/7), Emma (F/5), Mary (F/4), and Andrew (M/2). Charles Winter will not be born until November 26, 1870. Other Winter names on this Census under Thomas’ family in a different household: Rebecca (66), Hannah (43), Catherin (35), Andrew (27), Millian E (25).
Charles married Caroline Pamala Sharples who was born in England to Matilda Bishop and __________ Sharples (both born in England). Caroline came to the United States in 1893.
Charles and Caroline had three children (all born in California) : Hettie [Hetty], Emma, and Leonard.
Charles can be found in the 1900 Census for Supervisor District No.2, Contra Costa County, CA. [Roll 85, Book 1, Page 219]. He is listed as “Chas” and 29 years old (Nov1870) living with his wife Caroline of 36 yrs (Mar1864), and their three children: Hettie P (F/4/Feb1896), Emma M (F/2/Dec1897), and Leonard (M/12 mths/Mar1900). This Census states that Caroline immigrated to the US in 1893 and has been here for 7 years.
Charles can be found in the 1910 Census for 5th Township, Contra Costa County, CA. [Roll 75, Book 1, Page105]. He is listed as 40 years old living with his wife Caroline of 42 yrs, and their three children: Hetty (F/14), Emma (F/12), and Leonard (M/10). This Census states that Caroline immigrated to the US in 1892.
Caroline can be found in the 1920 Census for Westside Precinct, Glenn County, CA. [Roll 93, Book 2, Page 269]. She is listed as 54 years old, widowed, and living with her three children: Hettie (F/23), Emma (F/22), and Leonard (M/19), and two nephews, Andrew (M/24), and Edwin (M/23). ). This Census states that Caroline immigrated to the US in 1893.
John Marcus Barber was born to Daniel J Barber and Delia Vaughter on February 22, 1888 Tennessee. Hetty Phyllis Winter married John Marcus Barber. John and Hetty had Ruth, Leonard and Emma Dorothea. Dorothea married Francis Marion Haynes
Jennifer Louise Haynes was born on June 16, 1955 in Willows CA to Francis Marion Haynes and Emma “Dorothea” Barber. Jennifer married Joe Sousa Jr. Joseph V Sousa, Jr. “Joe” was born on May 26, 1954 in Scotia [lived in Fortuna] to Joe Sousa Sr. and Janice Hollbrook. Joe Jr. and Jennifer both graduated Willows High.
I was born in Willows, Glenn County, CA on October 05, 1977 to Jennifer Louise [Haynes] and Joseph V Sousa, Jr. “Joe”. I am the middle child of three. My sister, Amanda Diane, was born December 01, 1975, and my brother, Travis John, was born September 27, 1979. My birth Certificate shows the name Amber-Leigh Jo Sousa but mom changed it to Amberly by the time I received my Social Security card.

I am also looking for the Barbers. David J. Barber is my great-great grandfather. Delia was his first wife and they had three children that I know of: John Marcus Barber, Harry Barber,and David Barber. Fannie was his second wife with six children that I know of: Matty and Addie(Twins), Oscar, Clarria, Ora, and Lofton.
John Marcus is my Great Grandfather - married Hetty Phyllis Winter and had Emma Dorothea, Ruth Carolyn, and Lloyd Barber. Emma Dorothea is my Grandmother. She married Francis Marion Haynes and had Jim,Jack,Joe,John,Jeff,Jerry,and Jennifer. Jennifer is my mother.
