The family Spear (Spelled several ways; Spier, Speer, Spear) of Northeastern New Jersey have earliest roots in the 1640's of Colonial America. They share common bonds of ancestry with mostly all the early Dutch/German settlers who made homes and ways of life from New Amsterdam (New York City) and East and North Jersey. Many branches of this tree also spread to or had similiar roots in places such as the "West end" of Monroe county, Pennsylvania; The Ramapo mountains and the historic Hudson River valley. Family members served prominently during the Revolutionary War in Essex and Hudson county patriot forces, the 2nd war of Independance in 1812, and the Civil War. In both World Wars, Korea and Vietnam era's family members also served their country. One of the ,many founding families of the United States, this family tree has many branches and roots that go very deep. Beginning with the earliest researched family members in Europe in the 1500's to the present century.
