I am looking for all Gentry family information from all lines. I am particularly interested in Gentrys from Georgia, Alabama & Arkansas. I have a large collection of Gentry families not shown on this Home Page. I am willing to share any information to help anyone I can to research their own line. My particular line begins with Joseph R. Gentry who was born in Georgia. He married Mary Elizabeth Langley in 1849 in Campbell Co., GA. Mary is the daughter of Edward and Louvinia Langley. Her brother, James Wyeth Langley married Eatha Melinda Shelnut, daughter of John Shelnut, son of Andrew Shelnut and Elizabeth Gentry. Joseph and Mary moved from Campbell County to Benton Co., Alabama in 1850. Benton County was divided into three different counties. The county my ggggrandfather lived in was Cleburne County. They had five children; Martha, James Wyatt, Mary Elizabeth,Amanda,& Phoebe Ann. James Wyatt Gentry, my gggrandfather, married Sarah Ann Shelnut. Sarah is the daughter of Thomas Pink Shelnut, who is the son of John Shelnut, who is the son of Andrew Shelnut who married Elizabeth Gentry. Thomas was brother to Eatha Melinda Shelnut who married James Wyeth Langley. So apparently Sarah and James were cousins. James Wyatt and Sarah Gentry lived in Cleburne Co., AL near his parents. Sometime before 1880 they all moved to Cullman Co., AL where Joseph and Mary died and were buried there. Around 1891, James and Sarah moved to Benton, Saline Co., AR. Her brother Joseph Thomas Shelnut and his family had also moved there at the same time. My family have been in Benton, Saline Co., AR since.
