My mom (now deceased) and I have been working on a "Tree" off and on for about 10 years. Her moms side of the family was relatively easy to trace, because years ago families were "clanish" and groups stayed close, sad to say later generations do not. As different nationalities blend, it becomes harder to find your information. We were only able to go back about 4 generations on her moms side (German), Her dads (German/Irish), we had difficulty with as he died when mom was 7, and naturally the families moved on and splintered. My dads family is the same, mom (Irish) divorced his father (Polish) when he was a youngster,He remarried and changed his name to a Polish spelling and we have been unable to get anywhere there. We know of a second family for him but they deny a realationship so we hit a wall.
My own husband is 1st generation Greek on his fathers side. and 2nd generation Irish on his moms. Information on death certs is sketchy at best and not really reliable depending on who's doing the telling, and what they really know.
I will press on, (My daughter has now been bitten by the "who are we" bug) and now with the use of computers, we may be able to get further is our quest, time permitting.
Wish us luck! As I wish all of you.
