It's taken me about 10 years to research all of this info, but it's been a labor of love. Luckily I have extensive information of my Bortner history...the Shull side was much harder to come by since the name was once spelled Scholl and I didn't realize this for a while. I have chronicled it all into a book that I have given my son and nephew so they can carry this information into future generations. I still have much information that I want to find ie. Revolutionary and Civil war records..I don't think I'll join the D.A.R., but I could. I have found alot of satisfaction and a sense of connection with the past...and the future in doing this. I now have a grandson who is part of me and the generations before me as we are part of him. The sense of continuity and knowing where I came from is facinating to me. It is a fun journey and well worth the effort.
