About Our Family Research

My research began in the 1980s for my family on my father and mother's side.I began to search thoroughly on the Spotos, where in the 1990s I did the majority of my quest to solved some of the unknown in my family at the family history center run by the Latter Day Saints.Through eight micro films,my unknown became known in Stefano,Quisquina(Agrigento)Sicily. My great grandfather Nelson Spoto made the first moved in coming to the USA by sending my grandfather Joseph Sr. to New York City in 1899.By 1903,my family moved to Tampa,Florida. There, the dairy and farming work began on Lake Ave.My grandfather left on his own, where he moved his family to Palm River--a section of Hillsborough County. My father was born in Palm River in 1919,and grew up with his four sisters and four brothers. On my mother's side, the Rotolo family were not as known like the Spotos. The Rotolos came from a town called Sambuca,Sicily.Sambuca, was not that far from Stefano,Quisquina.I would say Sambuca was as far from Tampa to Plant City. The Rotolos were poor farmers, and not all of the Rotolos came together by ship, but only a few at at a time from 1896 to 1903.Many of the Rotolos came straight to Tampa, and others went by New Oreleans,La.with the Licata family.Carl Rotolo, was my great grandfather and my mother's grandfather. He came to Tampa with his brothers and sisters and mother without his father.By 1903,Sam Rotolo,Carl's father had died in Sicily,so by 1903,they had established themselves in living in Tampa by trade in making cigars.Today,in the 21 century, there are many Spotos and Rotolos still living in Tampa,Fla.There are no reunions at this time to gather together the family.Like most families,it is a tragic event that has fsded away since the passing of my grandfather Joseph in 1964.
