Spratts of the Ottawa Valley (Irish ancestry)

About Our Family Research


Researching three SPRATT brothers, Andrew[1], James[1] and John[1] SPRATT (there may have been a sister, too, named Sarah[1]) who emigrated from Ireland and settled in Canada. Andrew SPRATT apparently came from Antrim Co, Ireland around 1827. John SPRATT was apparently born in King's Co (Offaly), Ireland.

I) Andrew SPRATT[1] (1807-1890) m. Catherine Ellen FREEMAN (1814-1859) (see Note#1, 2)
1.James[2] (1839-1900) m. Sara MOORE (1842-1917)
2.Catherine ELLEN[2] 1842 - 1870 m. Thomas MOORE (1835-1910)
3.Thomas[2] (1844-1870) m. Susan Elizabeth PHILLIPS (1848-1870) (see Note #3)
4.Jane[2] (1845-1926) m. Charles WEBB (1st husband); m. John DALY (2nd husband)
5.William[2] (1847-1925) m. Annie MOORE (1852-1939)
6.Elizabeth[2] (1849-1926) m. James Harriett ERSKINE (1841-1912)
7.Andrew[2] (1852-1928) m. Margaret GOTH (1850-1915)
8.John[2] (1854-1933) m. Sarah NIXON (1863-1927)
9.Richard[2] (1856-1932) m. Charlotte CAMPBELL (1857-1927)

Note #1: Andrew[1] and most of family buried at South Gloucester United Church, Gloucester, Ontario, Canada.
Note #2: Catherine Ellen Freeman from Wicklow, Ireland.
Note #3: Thomas[2] and wife, Susan Elizabeth are buried in Anglican cemetery in Wentworth Co, Ontario, Canada; both died of typhus fever.

Note #4: James[1] and wife, Jane, are buried at South Gloucester United Church, Gloucester, Ontario, Canada; James settled in Canada in 1836.

Note #5: John SPRATT[1] and wife, Margaret, are buried at Dales cemetery in Cumberland Twp, Ontario, Canada.
Note #6: John SPRATT[2] and wife, Georgina, are buried in Elgin, Manitoba, Canada.
Note #7: Marie SPRATT[2] and husband Edward moved to western Canada.

IV) Sarah SPRATT[1]??? m. (?) GAMBLE??? (see Note #8)

Note #8: Have not been able to confirm whether sister of Andrew[1], James[1] and John[1] actually existed.
Note #9: Andrew[1], James[1], and John's[1] mother's name might have been Jane (b.1784, Ireland)
Note #10: Andrew[1], James[1] and John[1] SPRATT all settled in Gloucester Twp, Carleton Co, near present day city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. All men farmed. John[1] later moved to Cumberland Twp. (near Navan) in Ontario.

Looking for info on descendants in Canada and Ireland and want to know exactly where this branch of the SPRATT family came from in Ireland.
