I'm Nigel Philip SPRY, a registered Heart of England 'Cotswold & Gloucestershire' tourist guide and involved in Gloucestershire archaeology, local history and similar interests including the Gloucester Civic Trust. I edit 'Glevensis', the annual journal of The Gloucester and District Archaeological Research Group. I am married to Josephine and we have a grown-up family.
I'm researching the SPRY family and my other ancestors'families. My earliest traced SPRY ancestor is Shadrack Spry who married Grace BATTEN at Bradford,Devon in 1752. Daughter Ann had 3 base children, Richard, Peter and Ruth. Peter married Susanna PENGELLY at Germansweek,Devon in 1829. Their son Peter(one of 10) married Susan WEDLEY at Newent,Gloucestershire in 1873 and had son ALBERT at Earlestown, Lancashire. Peter married twice, settled in Gloucester by 1881, and also had 10 children. Albert married Alice LANDER in 1895, son Leslie married Marjorie BUDDING in 1938 and had son Nigel,that's me.There are links to the COATES, GREENWOOD, SCRIVENS, TAYLOR, and TEAGUE families in Gloucestershire and surrounding counties.
