The SPROATS- originally of Scotland- and the PEEKS- of England, followed separate paths to St. Joseph, Missouri where both families have resided for several generations, before being united by marriage. I have been researching both lines for several years now.
Much of the SPROAT family line has been unearthed by RICHARD SPROAT, SR- recently deceased at the age of 96-born to Orange Reilly Sproat and Mary Elizabeth Smith. O. R. Sproat was one of the earlier SPROAT arrivals in St. Joseph. The CAMPBELLS, HIGDONS, BERRYS, CLAYCOMBES and METZINGERS have married into this line.
I myself traced the PEEK line through James W Peek, Civil war veteran and blacksmith. James Peek and his wife Emily Porter were among the first PEEKS in St. Joseph in the late 1800s. The KLENKES, MOREMONDS, PUTHOFFS and WINSLOWS tie into this line.
I am currently most interested in information on:
Orange Reilly Sproat and Mary Elzabeth Smith James W Peek and Emily Porter James H Campbell and Mahala J Claycombe Elijah Campbell and Rebecca Pence Gussie Mae Winslow and Charles Edward Peek
