Stanley, Standley, Stanly - VIrginia - West Virginia Updated November 21, 2008
About Our Family Research
Tracing the Stanley family line from Cabell County, West Virginia 1840-1880 to other pre-WV counties of Virginia. I have had many problems tying the family line from Cabell Co to other counties such as (1770-1830) Monroe, Henry, and Pittsylvania. I suspect that this family line will eventually tie into the Stanley family lines either in (pre 1770) Hanover County, VA or the Stanley family line in Massachusetts.
Other researchers of this line have made some errors - I think more like assumptions, that were just wrong.
I have found other reseachers of this line that seemed to have a good trail, but did not run all the leads to ground.
I have worked this line from many years, but I will not just accept what others have reported without documented proof.
I have made many special family research trips and made some good progress, but most of the target area have been too far to visit regularly. I have found many finds that would not have been possible without on-sight visits.
Some of this family line moved to Ohio in the late 1800s (~1880-1890 to Lawrence & Gallia Counties). This is the line I come from. There were few children due to early deaths, and some twist and turns. It make research very difficult when most were just dirt poor farmers.
