Gutman p. 175 lists Juday and Abner having: 1818 Ellen
TCB to DC (in Raleigh) 22 November 1821 (by Nathan): "If the situation of the family at home would permit of my absince I should certainly go down to you this morning, but I am sorry to tell you that poor abner is very low, the Dr. as you understand from him thought him better & he appeared to be quite smart Sunday, up the most of the day, that from his imprudence I suspect in eating too much dinner on Sunday he was attacked that night with a most violent cholick, indeed I had but little hope of his living I gave him a plenty of medicine which at length afforded him some relief, but all day Monday he wa's in considerable pain, & he is now so sore from his attack that he can scarcely move himself, he appear's to me to be free from fear this morning, but very weak & low. I am giving him the day the c...[?] root as the Dr. insisted, if the Dr. would be absent from Pail a short time I should be glad he should ride up & see him tomorrow, but if my sister, or yourself should think it best that he should not leave Paul he can write to me what to do, i wish you to understand that I do not think him any ill, but in a low lingering situation..."
TDB to DC (Raleigh) 24 November 1821: "As to Abner & Jim I refer you to the Dr. they have both been very sick. Jim I hope will soon be up but as to poor abner I look forward to a long and tedious indisposition, the Dr. I hope understands his case & will I hope be able to restore him..."[Stagvillebackup1.FTW]
