PC to Sisters (Miss MBC) 2 December 1847: "we have but little indispositions in the family of blacks -- the young man 'Abner' at Stagville is contrary to my expectation recovering from a dangerous illness. The general health of the family will I think be soon established should we be so fortunate as to excape those winter diseased that so often follow autumnal diseases."

AC to PCC 8 January 1848: "...The boy at Stagville who has been sick so long 'Abner' does not improve much but is no worse-- ..."

PCC (Fairntosh) to NC (Raleigh) November 1848?: There (Stagville_ we have had this week two very ill negros Betsy & Aber -- the first in os safe ground -- the last Abner a young man about 22 is yet very ill -- must die I think -- Hicks saw him on friday -- & I have had a boy on the hunt of hum all day but without success -- the case one of Typhus neumonia --"
