TDB to DC (Savannah) 27 Dec 1839: "Davie who has been up for the last fortnight attending to your Pork, reurned to Raleigh on Friday, & Luke came up, he says the House & Lot are as it should be & Caroline & the little boy's all well, by Luke Miss Catherine Boylan wrote to Paul..."

Mr. Piper (Stagville) to PC (Haw River) 9 Jul 1842: "Caroline is some better"

W. Piper (Fairntosh) to Mr. Cameron (PCC?) 8 Oct 1842: "I sent to Dr. Hicks to day but he did not come but he will be here tomorrow morning. I wish him to see Carolines little girl at Eno. she has been doing a good deal better since you left until yesterday. I do not think her to be worse off now than when you left yet I fear she may be."

Dr. John Moore (Marengo Co, ALA) to PCC 26 Jul 1847: Inquires about previous health of Caroline--"...she has well marked symptoms of the chronic or secondary forms of syphillis. Although she and her mother deny that she ever had such a disease."
