Halstein Lade Family of Fosston, MN

Updated March 30, 2003

About Our Family Research

Halstein Severin Lade was my great grandfather and was born in Norway 31 DEC 1852 in Syvde, Norway. He married Inger Petrikka Paulsdatter 16 DEC 1876 in Syvde. Her first husband was Gulick Sordal. Halstein died 15 APR 1927 in Queen Township near Fosston, Polk Co., MN. Inger died 30 July 1833 also in Queen Township near Fosston, Polk Co., MN. They came to the US in Apr. or May of 1886, homesteaded near Fosston, MN, and had the following children who all came to the US or were born here (in order of their birth):

1. Regine Kathryn Mykklebust Sordal (Inger's daughter from 1st marriage in Norway.)
2. Marit Lade
3. Ida Lade
4. Karin Lade
5. Saebjorn "Burt" Lade (my grandfather on my father's side)
6. Paul Lade
7. Halfdan Lade
8. Ingvald Lade

I have information about 12 generations back from myself on the Halstein Lade family and much information on his brother, Johannes Lade, who also came to the US and had a large family in Fosston, MN.

There are not so many descendants from the Halstein Lade family because all but Marit, Saebjorn, and Halfdan had no children. Saebjorn died at age 36 and Halfdan at 22. Regine and Ida were married but had no children and Ida died at about age 30 of a brain tumor. Karin died of TB at 21, Paul died in infancy, and Ingvald was never married.

I also have some information on the Daniel Lade family. He was the son of a half-brother of Halstein who came from Norway and settled in Vancouver, Canada, and had a large family.

I would be glad to share my genealogy of these families with anyone who is interested.
