Chariman of the Williamson County Central Committee of the Democratic Pary Prominent in Illinois state policitcs and held a state position in the financie department gasoline tax division. He also worked in the local mines in Herrin and had been a leader and officer in the United Mine Workers of America.

"William Burton of Williamson County, Board Member of the U.M.W. of A. is a young man of prominence in the U.M.W.of A circles. He was born in Alabama and he went through three of the hardest strikes in Alabama. He has held every office in tlocal mine unions at differnt times and he also served as treasurer of Herrin Trade Council for several years. When the office of Secretary-Treasurer was made vacant by the dparture of Wilson, Mr. Burton was placed in charge of all the expired term and proved to be of valuable assistance in straigtening out the tangles affairs of that office. He served two terms as a district board member and is at present the state board member for this district. Mr Burton's friends in this district are friends who stick because they have found him with the interest of the men he represents at heart. He sticks for what he thinks is right and is considered a labor leader with a future."
